Gautam Gambhir, the mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has finally addressed the much-talked-about on-field spat with Virat Kohli during last year's IPL. The dispute between Gambhir and Kohli, who represents Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), had been a subject of significant speculation, especially ahead of their teams' clash this season.
However, all speculations were put to rest as Gambhir and Kohli shared a heartwarming hug during their encounter in the Indian Premier League this year. The friendly reunion between the two cricketers came as a surprise to many, given the intensity of their previous confrontation during an RCB match against Lucknow Super Giants.
The KKR mentor emphasized that while he remains competitive on the field, his relationship with Kohli is a private matter. Gambhir expressed his views on the media's role in hyping up controversies, stating, “It's all about TRPs. Media has got no clue what kind of a person I am, or Virat is. All media wants to do is create TRPs and create that hype.”
Furthermore, Gambhir echoed Kohli's sentiment that the incident between them was confined to the field and shouldn't be dragged off it. He criticized those who unnecessarily talked about the incident without understanding the dynamics of professional sports, stating, “Many people talked about it unnecessarily, those who haven't even touched a cricket bat.”
